Studio pottery from Brighton

I make light, balanced functional ware in my studio in Brighton, UK, inspired by my Gran’s penchant for drinking from a ‘proper’ teacup.

I contrast elegant teacup shapes with glazes which vary across the piece, tweaking the glaze chemistry to encourage individuality. I leave proof of the making in marks like dimples and fingerprints, and sculpt the handles in different sizes for a personal tactile connection.

When I can I’ll use alternative firing techniques such as wood and soda, experimenting with the aesthetic of the strict Victorian form contrasted with the elemental and sometimes chaotic glaze effects of atmospheric firing.

My studio space is at 19a Artists Studios, a small community of potters and artists studios just outside of the city centre of Brighton. I’m also often in London with work and at makers markets.
