I found clay after moving into London and starting my office job, signing up to all the courses in the evenings just for fun. After bouldering, Spanish and pasta making, came an evening course at Morley College, with Annette Welch, CPA.
Hitchhiking to Morocco inspired me to make a large terracotta tagine, something I still cook with. What I liked about it was not only the calming pleasure in making - chatting with mates while squashing clay is the best chill time - but also learning about the culture of Moroccan food and pottery through a simple object.
Morley College had some incredible teachers who got me into the basics of handbuilding. After a couple of years (2010-2012), I found Kayleigh at the Islington Arts Factory. She was so great - helping everyone in their challenges with clay, but otherwise a pretty hands-off approach just letting us get on with our fluency with the material.
